Fish Patties

I don’t like fish. My mom tells me that as a child, I used to love tuna until I heard somebody call it tuna fish.  I guess it is in my head, but knowing that doesn’t make it easier to like.  My husband and kids love fish, but since I do almost all of the cooking, they don’t get fish.  I don’t even know how to cook fish, except for this fish patty recipe my mom makes from canned tuna or salmon.

My kids love this recipe.  I love how easy it is to make.  It is perfect for those days when you realize it is time to eat dinner, and you still haven’t decided what you are going to make for dinner.

Fish Patties

3 cans tuna or salmon in water, drained

2 eggs

1/2 cup oats

a dash of garlic salt

1/4 tsp dill seed

Mix all the ingredients together.  Form patties, and pan fry over a medium heat, with a little oil.  Turn fish patties when the bottoms turn golden brown.  Cook other side until golden brown.  Serve hot with lemons/lemon juice and cracked pepper tartar sauce (optional).

Cracked Pepper Tartar Sauce

1/4 cup cracked pepper mayo

1-2 Tbls yellow mustard (depending on how much you like mustard)

1 Tbls finely diced dill pickle

fresh dill, optional

Mix ingredients in a bowl and serve with fish.
